This week: Vina Del Mar, Montpelier, Zagreb
VTR Open – Vina Del Mar, Chile
Following a busy weekend with Davis Cup obligations, the tour moves on to 3 tournaments this week with indoor tournaments in Zagreb and Montpellier, and the first clay court tournament of the season in Vina del Mar, Chile. The latter event has generated an unusual amount of press this year due to the long-awaited comeback of superstar Rafael Nadal, who returns to action this week in the low-key tournament after missing the last 7 months with a knee injury. Nadal has been treated like royalty ever since arriving in the country a few days ago, and we are looking forward to seeing him back in action Wednesday. He will be joined by world #15 Juan Monaco, up-and-coming Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, and Spanish compatriot Pablo Andujar, all of whom have secured byes in the first round.
In other news, after winning 2 singles and the longest doubles match in Davis Cup history for the Czechs, Tomas Berdych has withdrawn from Montpellier citing a wrist injury sustained over the weekend.
